(continued) he names attributed to Lucifer are very significant for us today because they divulge the true nature of our enemy. The Word of God helps us along the road to victory by teaching us the nature and character of that old serpent, the devil, and through it reveals to us his origin and ultimate destiny in the lake of fire. I think it's worth looking at a few more names. This fallen angel known as the devil is referred to in the Book of Revelation as the accuser of the brethren. "And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night." Revelation 12:10 That's one of the things he's doing right now, accusing you and me before God. The best thing we can do in this holy war is be very careful not to give the devil any ammunition. In His explanation of the parable of the tares, Jesus calls' the devil the enemy. "The enemy that sowed them is the devil..." Matthew 13:39 The devil is not only the enemy of God and His eternal program, but he is the enemy of all God's born again children. Quite frankly, there's a whole lot of people who don't find the devil all that bad. They love and enjoy his pleasures of sin for a season. But there is a payday coming. As the old-timers used to say, "if you want to dance, you've got to pay the fiddler." Sin has a price, and that price is eternal death. Through deception the devil becomes an angel of light. 2 Corinthians 11:14 says, "And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light." The enemy of God paints himself in a very pretty light in order to do one thing - deceive God's elect. We live in what the Bible calls perilous times. They're perilous because they're difficult and hard to deal with. We live in a time when we often don't know who to believe or trust. I think this is truly a sign that the times in which we're living is the last of the last days. The devil's ministers are numerous and while some are easy to spot others are not. This one thing is true. If you put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ and love Him with all your mind, soul, and body, He will take care of you and keep you from falling. And if for some reason you do fall into one of the devil's traps, He will come to your rescue and deliver you from his hand. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to those who love Him, and the Spirit's job is to lead, teach, guide, and protect you on your journey home. But one thing you must do. You must keep your focus on Jesus and follow in His steps. The devil is called the prince of this world. "Now is the judgment of this world; now shall the prince of this world be cast out." John 12:31 Jesus told His disciples, "Hereafter I will not talk much with you; for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me." John 14:30 The devil had nothing in Jesus in which to grab hold of because Jesus had a nature that never sinned. Not that the devil didn't tD,. He did his best to tempt Jesus into sin but He stayed true to the Father's glory and the worship of His praise. And because of that faithfulness His sinless sacrifice delivers you and me from the power and hold of the prince of this world. Here are a few more of Lucifer's names if you care to look them up. He is the wicked one (1 John 5:18). Beelzebub (Matthew 12:24), A Murderer (John 8:44). A liar (John 8:44). Deceiver of the whole world (Revelation 12:9). Great Dragon (Revelation 12:9). Leviathan and crooked serpent (Isaiah 27:1). Ruler of darkness (Ephesians 6:12). A wolf (John 10:12). A thief (John 10:10). What's in a name? Lot's if you're talking about Lucifer. However, there's nothing for the Christian to fear from him. God has given us the ower to resist his enticements, if we only will. Study.
