Debris Pickup Policy The City of Florala's regular Council Meet- ings are the 2nd and 41h Monday of each month in the Council Chambers of City Hall al 6:30 p.m. Residents of the City of Florala are al- lowed access to the city's dumpsters lo- cated at the City Yard, 1315 9th Street, from the hours of 11 a.m. tc 4 p.m. on Thurs- days, to discard small amounts of household items and yard debris. One truck load per month foreach resident is free, each additional truck load is $100.00 per truck. Vegetation and limb debris must be stacked separately from household items. Residents who hire a contractor to clean up brush and trees need to make sure that contractor knows that it is their responsibil- ity to have the debris removed. All leaves must be bagged, be- fore pickup. Tires or paint cans cannot be picked up as these items must be dis- posed of as set by Ala- bama and EPA laws. Kiwanis Club Seeking Members Tri-Cities Kiwanis Club of Florala meets the first and third Thursday of each month at Alabama Land & Home Realty office in Florala at 5:30 p.m. Kiwanis is a Global organization of mem- bers dedicated to serv- ing the children of the world. Members of all ages attend meetings, experience fellowship, raise funds for various causes and participate in service projects that help their community. All interested are asked to join the club and help make the community a better place for children to grow up and live. Activities include sponsoring the annual "Fun in the Park" in the Longleaf Pinetree Park located in Lockhart, AL during October. This gives the children a safe environment to join other children in a fun filledadventure of Halloween provided by local businesses, churches, and clubs. Canned goods collect- ed are donated to the local Christian Service Center Food Bank. The group supports Cancer Freeze, the Gator Trot, Paxton Little League team sponsor, Pancake Breakfast, and "Cook- ies with Santa" prior to the Christmas parade in downtown Florala. Pewter Christmas Ornaments are sold lo- cally and through any member to promote the historical buildings of Florala. Free GED Classes The free GED class- es in Florala will meet at the former Florala Middle School, adja- cent to the Head Start classroom on Tues- days and Thursdays from 1-5 p.m. LBW Community College offers free GED Classes in An- dalusia, Opp, Florala, Luverne, and Green- ville. Day and evening classes are available to prepare students for the GED test. If you are 17 years old or .qlder and not enrolled in public school, you are eligible for these FREE classes. Worthless Check Unit In Florala The Covington County District Attor- ney's Worthless Check Unit is in Florala every second Thursday of the month on Florala's Municipal Court date in order to help lo- cal businesses collect on worthless checks. This is a free service provided by the District Attorney's Office.
