PAGE 6 CITY OF FLORALA, ALABAMA 1974 AND SUCCESSIVE YEARS AN ORDINANCE to prescribe and fix the license for business and occupations and professions in the corporate limits of the City of Floraia, Alabama, and that part out- side of the corporate limits but within the police juris- diction of the City of Florala, Alabama, for the year 1974, and successive years, and to regulate and fix the delin- quencies of such license for the year 1974 and successive years, and to fix and prescribe fines and penalities in connection therewith, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City Florala, Alabama, as follows: SECTION 1. of That the following be and the same is hereby declared to be the schedule of licenses for the year beginning January 1st, 1974, and successive years until this license schedule is changed or modified, for the various exhibitions, trade, business, vocations, occupations, and professions engaged in or carried on in the City of Florala, Alabama, and in that territory outside of the corporate limits of the City of Florala, Alabama, but within the police jurisdictiouthereof, and each and every person, firm, company, association, partnership, agency or corporation engaged in carrying on any of the exhibitions, trades, business, vocations, occupa- tions and professions herein enumerated, shall pay for and take out such license and in such sums as herein provided. Where the license is by the year, parties subject to the license under this ordinance prior to July 1, shall pay for the entire year, and after July 1, for one-half year, Unless otherwise indicated. All license schedules listed below are for firms, cor- porations or persons conducting such business within the City limits of Florala. All firms, corporations or persons located outside the City limits but within the police juris- diction of Florala shall pay one half the prescribed license fees indicated for businesses located within the City limits of Florala. SECTION A I. ACCOUNTANTS OR AUDITOR - Peryear- Local $25.00, Itinerant - $50.00 2. ADDING MACHINES, TYPEWIRITERS, CASH REGISTERS AND OTHER GENERAL OFFICE EQUIPMENT - Each com- pany or agent soliciting orders for selling or repairing- $50.0o 22. BILLIARD OR POOL TABLES - Either regular or miniature size, first table .setup, per year - $79.00; each additional table - $40.00. 23. BABY RANGE BOWLING ALLEYS, CANDY WHEELS, DOLL RACKS, SHOOTING GALLERIES - Each, per year - $1oo.oo. 24. BOAT AND MOTOR DEALERS, SALES AND REPAIRS Per year - $30.00; Established 75.00. 25. PUNCH BOARDS, BAFFLE BALL, SLOT MACHINES OR SIMILAR MACHINES - Prohibited. 26. BOTTLERS - Each bottler or aerated, carbonated, or mineral water soft drinks, or Coca-Cola, or similar drinks or extracts, who operates a plant in Florala, per year- $150.00. 27. BOTTLED OR SOFT DRINKS - Any dealer, trader or other person, or agent selling and/or delivering aerated, carbonated, or mineral drinks, in bottles, soft drinks or Coca-Cola at wholesale, per year - $125.00. 28. BUILDING MATERIAL DEALERS - Each person handling lumber, and/or brick, lime, cement, or other building materials or supplies, (Exclusive of Hardware stores), per year - $100.00. 29. BUSSES - Each bus for hire, operating under cer- tificate from Alabama Public Service Commission, with terminal station depot, or waiting room within the City of Florala, at which point persons are received and discharged, per year - $50.00. 30. BUS TERMINAL - Per year - $37.00. 31. BUTCHER OR MEAT MARKET - Each, per year - $50.00. 32. BUILDING AND LOANS - Persons or corporations, other than chartered banking institutions, making short term loans for which interest is charged, per year - $50.00. 33. BUTANE, PROPANE OR BOTTLED GAS - For heat- ing, cooking, or miscellaneous use, Each local dealer per year - $105.00. Transient dealer , per year - $150.00. 34. BEER, ALE, BREWED OR MALT BEVERAGES - Selling beer at retail to consumers, per year- $50.00. Wholesale dealers - Selling only one brand - $100.00, each additional brand- $20.00. Each such wholesaler of beer, ale or other malt or brewed beverages shall pay to the City of Floraia, in addition to all other license, a license tax of forty-eight (48) cents upon each separate case of beer, ale, or other malt or brewed beverages and two cents per can, per bottle, or other container delivered in fractional cases, within the Police jurisdiction of the City of Florala and outside the corporate limits thereof. (Each wholesaler may remit this tax on the first of each succeed- ing month after January 1, 1974 and shall submit with each remittance a statement of the number of cases de- livered to each customer.) 3. ADVERTISING - Each person advertising on streets with banners, floats, cartoons, or loud speakers in or on vehicles, motor or otherwise, per day - $10.00 4. ADVERTISING - Each person advertising forthe public or engaged in the business of bill posting, sign tacking, distributing advertising matter, and/or letting or supplying bill boards for advertising purposes, per year - $25.00; per month - $10.00; per week- $6.00; per day- $5.00. 5. AGENTS OR AGENCY - Each person, firm or cor- poration acting as agent for, or taking orders for, whether making delivery at the time of sale or otherwise, and who sell on the installment plan or otherwise, merchandise of any class, kind or quality, per year - $100.00. (b) Agents taking orders for, or selling books of any kind including magazines - per day - $10.00. Bibles excepted on permit ,~Only. , ~* 6. ARCHITECTS - Each; per year - $100.00. 7. AUCTIONEERS - Per day - $100.00. 8. AUTOMOBILE DEALERS - Dealing in, demonstrating, or solicting orders, for the sale of or purchase of auto- mobiles, or selling automobiles, or other selfpropelled vehicles whether resident or transient, per year $200.00. This license includes auto repair shops and incidents thereto except gasoline. 9. AUTOMOBILE DEALERS - Used Car Dealers having no garage, accessories, or other incidents related thereto, per year - $100.00. 10. AUTOMOBILE REPAIRS - Each person having a place of business or having no established place of business, but SECTION C 35. CIRCUS, CARNIVAL COMPANIES OR STREET FAIRS- For each concession composing said company, per year- $300.00. 36. CHIROPRACTORS - Each person, per year - $100.00. 37. CHICKEN HATCHERIES - Each, per year -$50.00. Selling chicken feed in connection therewith in addition to above, per year - $20.00. 38. CHAIN STORES - Any person, firm, or corporation operating a store or business in the City of Florala, Alabama, qualified as a chain store' (ie; Operating more than one store or business within the State of Alabama or any other state), shall pay a privilege license of, per year - $100.00. Business above $50,000.00 volume, per year $300.00. '- -~p 39. CIGARETTES - C~arette vendinuz machines, each, per year - $10.00. (If the dealer sells cigarettes over the counter and through the vending machine he shall pay two licenses hereunder.) Retail - $5.00; wholesale - $15.00. This license is in addition to all other licenses, and in addition to an excise or license unit or package tax now or here after imposed. 40. CIGARS AND TOBACCO - Each person selling cigarsi chewing tobacco, snuff, smoking tobacco either or all ex- cept regular licensed merchants or restaurant operators, per year - $5.00. This license is in addition to unit license or excise tax now or here after imposed. 41. CLEANING AND PRESSING SHOPS - Each transient who solicits or accepts clothes or other articles to be dry THE FLORALA NEWS THURSDAY, 54. ELECTRICAL AND GAS APPLIANCES - Each local firm or person selling or delivering radios, electric re- frigerators, electrical or gas appliances, etc,; per year- Local - $26.50. (This license is in addition to general merchandise license and is not included therein.) Per year transient - $150.00. 55. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS AND PLUMBERS - Each person serving the public for the installation of electric work or appliances and/or plumbers, per year- $50.00. Transient - $100.00. SECTION F 56. FIREWORKS - December 15 thru January 15, 1974, - $100.00. 57. FISH AND OYSTERS, RETAIL - Each per year- $25.00. 53. FRUIT DEALERS - CURB MARKET - Selling at retail from openair stand, or from a temporary structure or from building erected less than sixty days before the license is taken out, per year - $40.00. Selling from Parker Vehicles prohibited. Farmers from local trade area, with growers permit, permitted to sell fruit and vegetables house to house. 59. FERTILIZER - Any person except a regular licensed merchant selling, taking orders, or dealing in fertilizer, whether said fertilizer is then delivered or later delivered from a point within or without the State of Alabama, per year - $30.00. Manufacturers and Wholesalers- per year - $100.00. 60. FLORIST - Per year - $25.00. 61. FRUIT TREES OR SHRUBBERY - Each transient selling, delivering or soliciting orders for sale, either or all, per year - $30.00. Local with established place or business, per year - $12.00. (This applies to fruit dealers or shrubbery deliver~l from a point within or without the State of Alabama.) 62. FEED MILL - Each, per year - $30.00. SECTION G 63. GRIST MILLS - Each, per year - $30.00. SECTION H 64. HOTELS AND MOTELS - Each, per year - $60.00. 65. HOBBY SHOP - Each, per year - $25.00. 66. HEALERS -- Persons claiming to give special treat- ment for the cure of physical ailment not licensed physi- cians by the State - Prohibited. 67. HAWKERS OR VENDORS - Or medicine, candy, razors and of all other articles of merchandise same being sold and delivered from stand or it proximity, per year - $500.00. SECTION I 68. ICE CREAM PEDDLERS OR TRANSIENTS - Selling and delivering to merchants from truck, each, per year - $60.00. 69. ICE MANUFACTURERS - Each plant, per year- $50.00. 69-A ICE DEALERS - SELLING WHOLESALE TO MER- CHANTS - $25.00. 70. IMPLEMENTS - Any person except a regular licensed merchant selling farm implements, including wagons, culti- vators, plow tools, or equipment shall pay, per year- $75.00. 71. INSURANCE - Each person writing burial and life insurance, per year - $25.00:~ ,. 72-A. INSURANCE - FIRE & MARINE -*" I. Companies having been previously licensed to do business in the City of Florala or its Police Jurisdiction in the immediate past year shall pay a license in an amount based on the following: Four per cent (4%) of each $I00.00 of gross premiums, less return premiums, on policies issued during the pre- ceeding year on property located within the corporate limits of Florala, Alabama, and 2% on each $100.00 of gross pre- miums, less return premiums, on policies issued during the preceding year on property located within the police jurisdiction of Florala, Alabama. Such precentage shall be based on each $100.00, or major fraction of such gross premiums, and no credit or deduction of any kind shall be allowed or made on account of the cost of reinsurance by such company in a company not authorized to do business doing repair work on motor vehicles, or operating as a cleaned, pressed, or dyed, per year - $175.00. Contractors - General - in building contract business, per year - $52.50. Contractors- Limited, each person engaged in work, per year - $25.00. Contractors - Each person or persons engaged in the installation or re- pair of Air Conditioning and heating systems - Local, per year - $50.00, Transient, per year - $100.00. 44. COTTON BUYERS OR BROKERS - From merchants, per year - $50.00. (The above license applies to buyers who represent non-resident persons, firms or corporations as well as local concerns. 45. COTTON GINS - Each, per year - $150.00. 46. COTTON STORAGE WAREHOUSE - Each person storing cotton for pay, per year - $47.50. SECTION D 47. DAIRIES - Each transient engaged in selling or de- livering dairy products, per year - $100.00. Local with established place of business, per year $50.00. 48. DENTIST - Each, per year $100100. 49. DOCTORS (Physicians) - Each, per year - $100.00. 50. DISTRIBUTORS - Each person soliciting or accepting. orders for fish, oysters, meal, dry goods, notions, auto- mobile accessories, shoes or other articles of merchandise, for which no specific license is herein imposed, and selling to the wholesale trade, or sollciting or accepting orders therefrom including delivery by or selling from truck, such deliveries being made by transportation from a point within or without the State of Alabama, per year - $50.00. Dis- tributors - Each person soliciting or accepting orders for groceries, meats and produce and selling to the wholesale trade, or soliciting or accepting orders therefrom including delivery by or selling from truck, such deliveries being made by transportation from a point within or without the State of Alabama, per year - $S0.00. Each such Company shall first pay a flat fee of $10.00 to the City of Florala. This fee shall not be pro-rated regardless of the time of the year the Company applies for such license. Each such Company shall at the end of the license year, but in no case beyond February 1st of the following year, shall compute and pay an additional amount of license arrived at by applying the same method of computation applying to companies outlined under Sec- tion 72-A-1 of this section. From this amount, the $10.00 fee previously paid shall be deducted from this amount. This addition amount will be due for and applied to the license year in which the initial fee of $I0.00 was paid. This additional amount will not apply to or authorize such company to continue operations in the following li- cense year in which the $10.00 fee was paid. For all following consecutive years, such company shall pay under Sub-Paragraph 1 of this section. 3. All companies paying under Paragraph 1 'of this section shall before March 1st of each year file with the Clerk of the City of Floraia a written and signed statement, which must be verified and also signed by the agent of such company operating in Florala, showing the full and true amount of gross premiums, less return premiums, on policies written during the preceding year on property in the City of Florala as well as the same premiums on policies written during the preceding year and covering property outside the City Limits of Florala but within the police jurisdiction. All Companies paying under Sub-Para- graph 2 of this section shall also file the same statement as described above on or before February Ist of the year following the year in which the $10.00 fee was paid (First License Year). This statement is to be used in computing the additional license due the City of Florala for the first year's license of a company. This statement may also be used in computing the second year's license of such company. The above described statements must accompany the amount of license required under the term of this section. 72-B. ALL OTHER COMPANIES - 1. Companies having been previously licensed to do business in the City of FJorala or its police jurisdiction in the immediate past year shall pay a license in an amount based on the fo!lowtng: A fiat fee of $I0.00 plus $1.00 on each $100.00 and major fraction thereof, of the gross premiums, less return pre- miums, received during the preceding year on policies issued during said year to citizens within the corporate limits of Florala and its police Jurisdiction. 2. Companies not having been previously licensed in the immediate past year by the City of Florala Or its police jurisdiction shall pay a license in an amount based on the following: First, these companies shall pay a fiat fee of $10.00 be- fore commencing business in the City of Floraia. AUTOMOBILE TIRES AND ACCESSORIES - Per year - $50.00; Itinerants - selling and/or delivering to wholesale trade - $75.00; Itinerants, selling and/or delivering on streets of Florala, or from any truck or other vehicle, to retail trade, per year - $150.00. 15. AUTOMOBILE FOR HIRE - Taxi operating an auto- mobile or other motor vehicle for carrying passengers for hire, each car per year - $30.00. No exemptions. 51. DRUGGIST OR DRUG STORE - Per year - $100.00. Each, druggist or drug store selling or offering to sell any sandwiches or other food, except peanut butter sandwiches, or other sandwiches of like kind purchased from bakeries, peanut product manufacturers regularly licensed to do business within the City of Floraia, per year- $25.00. 52. DANCING SCHOOL - Each, per year - $50.00. SECTION E 53. ELECTRIC LIGHT PLANTS-Each per year - $300.00.- And 3 per cent of gross income annually. at the end of the license year, or in no case later than February 1st of the following year, all such companies 16. SECTION B 19.
