PAGE 8 THE FLORALA NEWS- WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2014 STUDENTS AT W.S. HARLAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL enjoyed ears of fresh roasted corn from Dady's Roasted Corn of Westville, FL recently. The event was sponsored as part of the USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP). The FFVP provides students in participating schools with fresh fruits and vegetables two to three times each week. The goals of the FFVP are to expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience and to increase children's fruit and vegetable consumption. Dady's Roasted Corn roasted the corn on site and provided nutrition information in a festive environment. W.S. Harlan El- ementary would like to thank Dady's Roasted Corn for reminding the students that healthy eating can be fun and delicious! FLORALA HIGH SCHOOL LADY CATS Shay Brooks, Bailea Rickett, Keadra Avan, Riley Edwards and Morgan Jackson took on the Red Level Ti- gers Tuesday, November 18. The game was close throughout and tied late into the 4th period. The Tigers pulled ahead with :28 seconds left to secure the win, 30-29. The annual Fall Fes- tival at W.S. Harlan School recently saw Nathan Cook and A1- yssa Thames crowned K-3 Prince and Prin- cess. They are in Mrs. Suzanne Phillips' 2nd grade class. Latrell Sanders and Amy Joe Cook were crowned 4-6 King and Queen. They are 5th grade students in Mrs. Alicia Moore's class. Pumpkin decorating contest winners were: 1st Grade: 3rd place Michelle Brothers, 2nd place- Ellie Odom, and 1st place - Summer Kris 2nd Grade: 3rd place Heidi Hamilton, 2nd place - Preston Truman WILDCAT RAY HALL (10) gets a pass from Khalan Ball (2) for a 2 point shot in the Cats' 52-41 loss to the Tigers. 1st place- (tie) Brandon sell ! The idea is to enhance the campus by planting shrubbery and flowers around the school facili- ties. We would like to encourage past classes, clubs, organizations, and individuals to con- tribute to this project. A marker will be placed in the area which is spon- sored. The "cross country" style run/walk will begin at 9 a.m. and will include prizes for first place in each run and walk age category. In addition, kick the season off right by wearing a "jingle bell" themed costume to be entered for a chance to win prizes for the top three costumes. The cost for entry is $25, with all proceeds going to benefit scholarships for members of the school's AVID program, a unique program designed to help prepare all students for college readiness. The first 50 participants registered will receive a free t-shirt. Participants may pre-register for the event at www.active.com.
